About the Artist

I’m excited to share my story with you. My journey began in Oakdale, CA, a town known for its proximity to Yosemite. Here’s my visual artist profile in Granite Bay, CA, and I hope you enjoy learning about my path.

From Nursing to Art: A Change of Course

I moved to Sacramento to pursue a nursing degree at Sacramento State. However, nursing wasn’t my calling, and I ultimately earned a BA in social science. This degree opened doors to more creative pursuits. I was fortunate to take photography and art classes. I also gained valuable experience working with professional photographers (one commercial, and one a horse photographer) to help put myself through college.

Years in Commercial Photography

After five years of working part-time, I found full-time employment at the commercial photography studio Busselen Photo Illustrators. I spent three decades there, wearing many hats. I was an office/business manager. I also worked in the black and white and color lab and was a food stylist and prop/logistics coordinator.

During my last 10 years, I was a partner in Busselen/Bauer Photo Illustrators, Inc. My time in commercial photography afforded me many opportunities. I got to work with creative art directors, artists, lab workers, and photographers.

Finding My Artistic Voice

In 2000, I retired, but the artistic bug bit me again. I tried my hand at painting. I love to take pictures of flowers (the photography juices still remain!). I then “interpret” my photos into watercolor and acrylic paintings. I was happily surprised by the response from family and friends who encouraged me to display and sell my work. I hope you enjoy my “interpretations” as much as I do in producing them.
